Sports Council Implements Stadium Probe Recommendations

The National Sports Council has begun implementing recommendations of the stadium probe commission by removing all barbed wires around the inner perimeter of the Accra Sports Stadium. Barbed wires at the country’s largest stadium, the Kumasi sports stadium will also be stripped.

The Commission, which was instituted after the May 9th soccer disaster that claimed over 126 lives, as part of its recommendations to the President also suggested the establishment of two health posts at the Accra sports stadium with a stadium clinic as back up.

The Sports Council is also expected to upgrade existing medical facilities at the Stadium’s clinic.

Other recommendations include the setting up of sub-committees; among them a medical task force chaired by the acting chief executive, Bregadier George Brock, aimed at training personnel in first aid and communication skills. The recommendations cover all regional sporting facilities.
