Desiree Ellis, head coach of South African senior women's football team, has announced a 21-member squad for the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON), to be hosted in Ghana.

Coach Ellis handed call-ups to two uncapped players Amanda Mthandi (University of Johannesburg) and Tiisetso Makhubela (Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies) in her squad which
shows a lot of experience, especially with many of them featuring in previous tournaments.

The head coach also placed four players to be on stand-by; Kholosa Biyana, Rachel Sebati, Thato Letsoso and Hilda Magaia, as they would make the trip to face Black Queens of Ghana in an international friendly on Sunday, November 11, 2018.

South Africa is in Group B together with rivals Nigeria, Kenya and Zambia and they would be based in Cape Coast.

The tournament, which kick starts on 17 November to 1 December, would see eight countries compete for three spots at 2019 FIFA Women World Cup to be held in France in June, 2019.

South Africa are expected to arrive in Ghana on Friday as they gear up for the tournament.
