Soccer-Queen Mothers donate fruits to Satellites.

Accra, (Greater Accra) 26 Feb. '99,

Queen Mothers from the Ga Traditional Council Thursday, presented fruits to the Black Satellites at a training session with the Black Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium. The items, made up of pineapples, oranges, pawpaws, and coconuts, were received on behalf of the team by skipper Hamza Mohammed. The Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omaadro the third, who led the Queen mothers, said their presentation is in appreciation of their impressive performance so far in the African U-20 Youth Championship and urged the players to strive harder than before and win the Cup at stake. "We are planning a package for you if you should win this Cup and the World Youth Cup in Nigeria," she said. A spokesman for the team, Aziz Ansah, promised the Queen Mothers that the team would do all its best to make the nation proud. The Satellites play their final group A match against Cameroon on Saturday. The Black Stars, on the other hand, are training for Sunday's encounter with Eritrea in a group one match of the 2000 African Cup of Nations' qualifying series in Accra. The only foreign-based member of the Stars yet to arrive are Yaw Preko and Richard Kinsgton. According to Mr Kudjoe Fianoo, welfare officer of the Black Stars, the two players are expected tonight. He said Germany-based Daniel Addo and Emmanuel Duah in Portugal, have still not responded to the invitation although tickets have been sent to them. Mr E.T. Mensah, Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Ade Coker, Chairman of the Satellites Management Committee, Colonel George Brock (rtd), Acting Chief Executive of the National Sports Council, Guisseppe Dossena and Oti Akenten, both coaches, were present at the ceremony.
