Six records smashed at Mobil athletics

Two national and four games records were smashed at the end of what was billed as the most expensive athletic meeting in Ghana - the sixth Mobil National Athletic Competition which ended in Accra recently.

Despite the records, the c40 million competition which was supposed to be the final trials for the selection of the squad for the world championship in Sweden come next month and September.

Andrews Owusu of Alabama State University broke the 21-year old record of 8.09 metres set by Joshua Owusu for long jump. Edward Abaye vaulted 4.35 metres to better his own record of 4.32 metres set earlier this year.

Aziz Zakari of Emit Electronics Institute snatched the 200 metre gold in 20.9 seconds to equal Emmanuel Tuffour's record.
