Silver Sticks play Royal Sticks in hockey league

Kumasi, Oct 17, GNA-Ashanti regional hockey league enters its second week on Saturday, October 18, at the Kumasi sports stadium with Silver Sticks playing Royal Sticks in the first match. According to the fixtures, the second match will involve the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Academicals. Last week, KNUST lost 0-2 to Silver Sticks while Academicals also lost 0-2 to Royal Sticks.

Speaking to GNA Sports in Kumasi on Thursday, Mr David Sosu, Ashanti Regional Hockey Coach, said it was the first hockey league to be organised by the Regional Hockey Association.

He noted that the game had been dormant in the region and the league which is designed to whip up interest in it is being played by four clubs for a start.

Mr Sosu therefore hoped other organisations and institutions like the Kumasi Polytechnic and the University Education, Winneba will endeavour to raise teams to participate in the league in future.
