Former Ghana goalkeeper Abukari Damba has disclosed that the late Shamo Quaye was his bogey man during his footballing career.

According to the soft-spoken Damba, who was then with now second-tier side Real Tamale United had a torrid time dealing with the former Hearts of Oak attacker.

The 49-year-old said that in order to stop the legendary football maestro
from scoring against him he had to become friend with him.

“Shamo Quaye is the player I feared most, he has been beating every time even at the national team, and training Shamo will always score against me,” Damba said on Football Legend Night Show on GH One TV.

“At a point in time I decide to make Shamo a friend to find out more about him. It was very difficult to read him anytime he had the ball at his feet, it was difficult to tell, unpreditable. Shamo could shoot with any of his foot on the run. Shamo was too intelligent.”

He continued: “He beat me most of the time and tried to find an antidote but I couldn’t. He beat me anywhere, even in the national team."

Quaye passed on 20 years ago after short illness.
