Senghor questions CAF appeal decision, cites IFAB laws

Former First Vice President of Confederation of African Football and ex-president of the Senegalese FA, Augustin Senghor, has weighed in on the growing controversy surrounding the recent AFCON ruling.

In a strongly worded statement, Senghor referenced Article 5 of the Laws of the Game by International Football Association Board, emphasizing that decisions made by referees on match facts including goals and final results are considered final.

He questioned whether CAF’s Appeals Committee has the authority to override such principles, which are recognized globally and validated by FIFA statutes.

“The decisions of the referee on facts related to the game are final, Does the Appeals Committee master the Laws of the Game validated by FIFA and therefore superior to this regulation?” Senghor queried.

The Senegalese football figure further warned that the decision could set a “dangerous precedent” for the sport, suggesting it undermines the established authority of match officials.

Senghor also hinted that the matter could escalate to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, expressing confidence that football’s highest legal body would review the case.
