Senegal appeals AFCON 2025 verdict at CAS

Senegal have lost their AFCON title via forfeit Senegal have lost their AFCON title via forfeit

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has officially confirmed that the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has filed an appeal challenging the controversial decision to award the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title to Morocco.

The appeal, registered on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, seeks to overturn the ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and reinstate Senegal as the rightful winners of 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

In its filing, the FSF is asking CAS “to set aside the CAF decision and declare the FSF winners of AFCON,” escalating what has become one of the most contentious disputes in African football history.

The development follows CAF’s earlier decision to strip Senegal of the title and award it to Morocco, a move that sparked widespread debate, criticism, and calls for transparency across the football community.

CAS will now review submissions from both parties before issuing a final and binding ruling on the matter.

The outcome of the case could have major implications for African football governance and the credibility of continental competitions.
