The controversy surrounding Senegal’s stripped AFCON title continues to escalate as the President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye has joined the chorus of disapproval against CAF’s ruling.

Following CAF’s decision to award Senegal’s 18th January final victory to Morocco due to Senegal’s 17-minute walk-off, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye's latest social media post has raised eyebrows.

He changed his profile picture on his official accounts to a striking image showing himself with the AFCON trophy prominently displayed behind him, a subtle but unmistakable signal of support for the team and a quiet rebuke of the governing body.

The move comes just days after Senegalese star Sadio Mane publicly criticised CAF.

CAF’s Appeals Committee ruled that Senegal violated Article 82, which states that if a team leaves the field without the referee’s permission, it will be considered the loser.

The Senegalese Football Federation has vowed to appeal the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, describing the ruling as “unfair, unprecedented and unacceptable.”

By changing his profile picture, the President has added weight to the growing backlash.

The image has quickly gone viral on social media.
