Sekondi Eleven Wise football club honours the Nyaaku family

Former Ghana Premier league side Sekondi Eleven Wise has honoured the Nyaaku family which had 8 members playing for the team at different times.

The Nyaaku family hails from Maxwell Road, a suburb of Sekondi where seven (7) brothers joined their father to play for the team at its early days.

As part of the Wise’s centenary celebration, Peter, Paul, Robert, Albert, Anthony, George and John Nyaaku together with their father were honoured with a citation.

Sekondi Eleven Wise football club, known in the football circles as the ‘Western Show Boys’, ‘Akalakachi cha cho...Bomalaka’ was formed on April 9, 1919, in Sekondi-Takoradi, the capital Western Region.

Currently in a Division One League Club, Sekondi Eleven Wise is the second oldest existing football club in Ghana apart from Accra Hearts of Oak.

Eleven Wise was the first Ghanaian club to give its players a professional contract.

Some of the early players include Edward Acquah, John Eshun, Kofi Abbrey ‘the player coach’, Johnson Smith, John Antwi, James Bissue amd Ebenezer Assifuah.

Many have argued that WISE is an acronym which means 'Western International Soccer Eleven'.
