Seidu and Shamsu Lead University to US (NAIA) Volleyball Title

WICHITA, Kan.? The California Baptist University men?s volleyball team captured its third NAIA title in the program?s sixth season on Saturday night. Despite being without CBU Coach Ryan McGuyre, the #1-ranked and #1-seeded Lancers defeated the host school, #5 Newman, 30-21, 27-30, 30-23, 30-18, in the final of the NAIA/Tachikara National Invitational Tournament at Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita, Kansas.

The addition of Seidu Ajanako and Shamsu Awudu from Ghana gave the California Baptist University men's volleyball team an incredible lift, helping propel the Lancers to the 2004 NAIA title. It was the Lancers' third volleyball championship in the program's six years.

Ajanako, a starting outside hitter, averaged team highs of 4.08 kills and 2.01 digs per game. Awudu, also a starting outside hitter, had solid averages across the board of 3.54 kills, 0.54 service aces, 0.95 digs and 0.80 blocks.

At the 2004 NAIA Tournament, Ajanako led all players in hitting percentage, while Awudu led all players in service aces.

Ajanako, a sophomore, won his second straight NAIA title. He was the tournament MVP in 2003 as he led Park University to the championship. He then transferred to CBU. Awudu is a freshman who will also have the opportunity to win multiple championships.
