Scolari did not apply for Stars job

Accra, Nov. 30, GNA - Brazil's World Cup winning coach Luiz Felipe Scolari did not apply for the Black Stars job despite media suggestions that the former Chelsea Manager was among the more than 100 applicants who opted for the vacant position.

A highly placed source at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) told the months ago.

Though Juande Ramos, the former Real Madrid Manager expressed interest, he was overlooked due to factors including his desire and hunger for success, wages and age.

It has also emerged that neither German legend, Lothar Matthaus, current coach of Bulgaria nor Rajavac applied for the job. The source said Rajevac only made the initial shortlist of nine because of the headhunt option of the search team, as he never tendered an application.

According to the source, Portuguese Humberto Coelho, Marcel Desailly, Herbert Addo, Goran Stevanovic and German-Turk Bahtiyar Can Vanli made the final shortlist after due diligence.

Of the quintet, Coelho, who guided Portugal to the semi-finals of the 2000 European Championships before taking charge of Morocco and Tunisia is the most-experienced and appears the favourite.

Despite failing to lead North African duo, Morocco and Tunisia to the 2002 and 2010 World Cup in Japan/Korea and South Africa, the source praised the performance of the 60-year old with the two teams.

With no coaching experience, Desailly remains the darkhorse, whilst Stevanovic and Vanli's inadequate experience at coaching at the highest level dims their chances for the job.

The GFA is expected to interview the five coaches before naming the successor to Rajevac by mid-December.
