Brazilian winger Savinho has changed his name after completing his £85 million move from Manchester City to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 22-year-old has been widely known as Savinho throughout his career, but Tottenham have officially introduced him as Savio following his arrival in North London.

The change was highlighted in the club’s announcement of his five-year contract, with Spurs consistently referring to the Brazil international as Savio rather than the nickname that has followed him since his emergence in Brazilian football.

His full name is Savio Moreira de Oliveira, meaning the Tottenham announcement uses his given name rather than the “Savinho” nickname.

The name change comes as Savio begins a new chapter of his career after two seasons with Manchester City.

He joined City from Troyes in July 2024 for a reported £30.8 million and went on to make 84 appearances for the Premier League club, scoring seven goals and providing 16 assists.

Tottenham have now paid £85 million to bring him to the club, with the winger signing a five-year contract.

Savio said he was convinced to join Spurs after speaking with head coach Roberto De Zerbi.

“As soon as I spoke to the coach, I knew I had to come. He told me he wants to help me reach the highest level,” he said.

However, one of the first talking points for Tottenham fans surrounding their new signing will be getting used to a familiar face with a slightly different name.
