Samuel Anim sweeps laurels at Kellogg’s cycling championship

Samuel Anim established his superiority on the local cycling front by winning the maiden edition of the Kellogg’s Accra Cycling Championship held at James Town to commemorate the Homowo Festival of the people of Ga in the Greater Accra region.

He recorded a time of 1:37:17secs to win the cash prize of GHC200 and a hamper from Kwatson Ghana Limited, representatives of Kellogg’s and Promasidor Ghana Limited.

His mate Isaac Sackey followed with a time of 1:41:19secs to occupy second position and also take home a cash prize of GHC150 and a hamper.

With a time of 1:43:32secs, Festus Nyamekye also made it after finishing third to also take home a cash prize of GHC100 and a hamper from Kwatson Ghana Limited and Promasidor Ghana Limited.

William Afful was awarded the oldest cyclist award while Erica Sedzro also took the best female cyclist award. The first 10 cyclists were presented with souvenirs from the sponsors.

The competition brought together about 40 cyclists from the Greater Accra region.

The race which covered a distance of 64km began from Mantse Agbona to the High Street through the Ghana Post area, Independence Square and back to Mantse Agbona.

President of the Ghana Cycling Federation, Mr. Mohammed Sahnoon, called on corporate Ghana to come on board for the development of cycling and sports as a whole in the country.

He said the federation had a strategic plan to lift the sport to a higher level but would need funding to execute that plan.

Marketing Manager of Kwatsons Ghana Limited, Ms. Sejal Mehta, commended the organizers Events Unlimited and I-Level Media for bringing the cyclists together and pledged their company’s support in promoting sports in the country.

A representative of Promasidor Ghana Limited also expressed his outfit’s commitment to the promotion and development of sports especially cycling. Other organizations that supported the event are Socomex Pharmacy, distributors of Leopard Balm, Digital Innovation, Citi FM, Vibe FM and S & S Media Concepts.
