Samir shows class at GAABA Championship

Accra, Nov. 23, GNA - Lightweight, Issah Samir proved his worth with a second round knock-out of Nelson Alangiri of Ultimate Gym in their lightweight clash during a special contest organized by the Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA). Samir, who is product of the Wisdom Boxing Gym and member of the national amateur boxing team, Black Bombers, capitalized on his rich experience to dispose of Alangiri. In the first round, Samir, one of the six-boxers, who represented the nation at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games last August, overpowered Alangiri by unleashing countless punches and jabs from his favourite left hand.

The punishment appeared too severe for Alangiri whose corner men were compelled to throw in the towel upon resumption of the second round for the national boxer to be declared winner. Samir's gym-partners, Bright Ayala and Raphael Mensah brushed past Odoi Yemofio and Raymond Commey of De-Oak Gym and Square Deal, respectively, courtesy a unanimous decision in the other lightweight encounters.

In the featherweight division, Sulley Mathias of Square Deal beat James Kotey of Wisdom Gym via a split decision, while Musah Rahman Lawson of Wisdom Gym outclassed Anani Kutskoe of Ultimate Gym in their bantamweight clash. In the light heavyweight category, Matthew Nandoli of Wisdom Gym edged past Ebenezer Tetteh of Sonia Gym via a majority decision.
