The Ghana Cycling Association held its First National Delegates Congress at the Media Center, Ohene Djan Sports Stadium on Monday 31st May, 2010 to elect its Executive Committee to steer the affairs of the sport for the next four years.
The Congress saw Mr. Sahnoon who represented River Park Cycling Club, Accra elected unopposed as the new President for the Association. It would be called that, he held the same position until last year when new Executives were appointed as against the statutes of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Congress delegates were drawn from affiliated Cycling Clubs accross the country in accordance with the GCA Constitution. This democratic process was also in fulfilment of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Cycling Union's (UCI) requirements for the Association.
After adoption of the Asociation's Constitution by the delegates,nominees received were announced for elections proceed. Other Executives elected on the day are Teye Doku (Young Stars Cycling Club) as Vice President, Albert N.A Oku (All Stars Cycling Club) as Treasurer.
The three Executive members positions also went unopposed for Mr. Ali Umar (Pace Setters Cycling Club, Tamale), Hassan Musah (HM Cycling Club, Prampram) and Amen Ametor (Ho Cycling Club) with Williams Kyei as the Secretary-General.
The newly elected Executive Committee was sworn into office by the Chief Admin. Officer of the National Sports Council, Mr. Enoch Hornsby-Odoi.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Sahnoon thanked all delegates for the successful congress and called on them to support the work of the newly-elected Executive Committe of the Asociation. He remarked that, this is indeed the time to change the phase of Cycling in Ghana.He expressed optimum commitment to fulfil the mandate entrusted in the Executive Committee to rapidly develop the sport.
The Chief Executive Officer of National Sports Council, Mr. Wolanyo Agra also called on the new Board to mobilise the needed resources to develop the sport for excellence.
