'Sacking Appiah will not solve our problem'

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi has explained that sacking head coach Kwesi Appiah is not the solution to the Black Stars lame World Cup campaign.

The Executive Committee agreed on Wednesday to allow the ex-international hold on to his job despite failing to lead the team to progress from the Group stage.

By many, Appiah should have lost his job after becoming the first Ghana coach to suffer first round elimination in three World Cup finals appearances. Nyantakyi believes Appiah will learn from his mistakes and lead the 2010 World Cup quarter-finalists to win laurels.

“If you go and bring another coach, you are starting from scratch and there is no guarantee for success,” he told Accra-based Peace FM on Thursday.

“Sacking people is not an automatic solution to the problem.

“It’s not yet time for a change of leadership.”

Appiah will sign a two-year deal when his current contract runs out at the end of this month.
