SWAG urges journalists to boycott Gyan's press conference

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) have announced plans to boycott a scheduled press conference to be addressed by family of Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan on Wednesday.

The umbrella body of sports journalists in the West African country have taken the decision in solidarity with a Daily Graphic reporter Daniel Kenu, who was allegedly assaulted by the brother of Asamoah Gyan, Baffour Gyan.

Though the reporter in question has dropped the charges against Baffour, SWAG has urged its members to stay away from the press conference.

“Sports Writers of Ghana is calling on all its members well-meaning sports journalist in Ghana to boycott the press conference to be organized by the Gyan family in connection with the disappearance of Castro and other related matters on Wednesday, 24 September at the Alisa Hotel.

“The boycott is solidarity with the mother body; Ghana Journalist Association GJA and the principles of press freedom in the country,” read a statement by SWAG.

The press briefing is expected to address questions on the disappearance of Hiplife artiste, Theophilus Tagoe, popularly known as Castro, who is a close friend of Asamoah Gyan.

The family is also expected to make a statement on Baffour Gyan’s assault case against Daniel Kenu.
