SWAG mourn patron Nene E.T. Kawshie

Patrons, executives and members of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) were at Krobo Odumase last Friday to pay their last respects to their patron Nene Azago Kwesitsi I, the Maheealor (Defender) of the Manya Krobo State known in private life as E.T. Kwashie.

The late patron who owned Tesco (WA) Agencies and a former director of Accra Great Olympics and Tesco Babies Colts Club was born in 1912, and he died in 2013 at the age of 101.

He was a popular sports philanthropist who loved football and footballers, and would be buried on Saturday March 1, 2014 in Krobo Odumase.

He was survived with 18 children and seven wives, who later became two.

Among the SWAG delegation were patrons Oheneba Charles, Ambassador Ray Quarcoo, president Ackah Anthony, general secretary William Ezah and deputy general secretary Sammy Heywood Okine.

Others were executive member Frank Ampedu, Pierre Toto, Raymond Akumey, William Fifi Sey, Gabby Mensah, Kyei Manu, Henry Parker Nartey and Nii Maale Adsei.

The SWAG donated bottles of schnapps and cash of Ghc2,000 to the children and family.

Some members of the association were later hosted by Ambassador Ray Quarcoo who said he missed his colleague patron.

The late E.T. Kwashie never missed a SWAG Awards unless he is out of town. The next 39th SWAG Awards to be sponsored by MTN comes off on May 17, 2014 at the State House in Accra.
