SWAG goes to polls on Saturday

Accra, Feb. 21, GNA - The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) will on Saturday, February 26, go to the polls to elect its officers for another four year term of office.

A statement from the secretariat of the Association, said the elections will be under the supervision of Mr Hamid Issaka of the National Sports Council (NSC), will be held at the Media Centre, Ohene Djan stadium at 11:00 am.

It said the current President, Ackah Anthony of the Graphic Sports, is the sole candidate for the position of the Presidency, while Christian Abbe= w of the Ghanaian Times, Ben Ohene Aryeh of the Ghana Tourist Board (GTB) and Franklin Isaac Boateng of the NSC compete for the position of Vice President.

The statement added that the position of the General Secretary will be contested by William Ezah of the Ghana News Agency (GNA Sports) and Maurice Quansah of the Graphic Sports, whilst Sammy Heywood Okine of GTV's Sports Talk programme 93On the Ball" and Aristo Dotse of Soccer Net will vie fo= r the position of the Deputy General Secretary position.

Veronica Commey of GNA is the only candidate who filed for the position of Treasurer, with Mathias Tibu of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), Frank Ampadu of the Weekly Sports and Peter Mensah, a Freelance sports journalist are seeking the two slots on the Executive Member positions. The statement called on members to contact the secretariat at the Ohen= e Djan Stadium, Accra to settle their dues and all outstanding financial commitments before the close of work on Friday, February 25 to grant them voting rights.
