SWAG New executive to be sworn in on Thursday

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) will on Thursday, May 19, induct newly elected officers into office for a four year term.

The event, fixed for the Media Center of the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra, at 10:00am, will be attended by Patrons of the Association, officials of the National Sports Authority (NSA), sponsors, journalists, well wishers and other key stakeholders.

The swearing in of the new executive will be conducted by a Patron of the club, Nii Amarkai Amarteifio also a renowned lawyer.

The Association, it will be recalled, elected a seven member Executive Committee in February to run its affairs in the next four years.

The newly elected officers are President, Ackah Anthony of the Graphic Sports; Vice President Ben Ohene Aryeh of the Ghana Tourist Board; General Secretary, William Ezah of the Ghana News Agency; Deputy General Secretary, Sammy Heywood Okine of sportsinghana.com and ON THE BALL (GTV) fame; Treasurer, Veronica Commey of Ghana News Agency; and Executive Members, Mathias Tibu of the Ghana Insitute of Journalism and Frank Ampedu of Weekly Sports.

The SWAG went to the polls on February 23, 2011 and the members put their confidence, trust and mandate in these honourable men and lady to steer their affairs for the next four years.

Meanwhile, the 2010 MTN/SWAG awards which is one of the most highly expected sports programmes has been fixed for June 18 at the Banquet Hall of the State House.

The SWAG match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea has also been slated for June 26 at the Accra Sports Stadium. The date for the return leg will be made known soon to the general public.

In another development, the Deputy General Secretary has called on all journalists in Ghana who are interested in sports reporting via press, photography, internet, radio and television to join the SWAG and AIPS.
