SWAG Electoral Commissioner steps down

Accra, Nov. 29, GNA - Mr Harry Mouzalas has stepped down as Electoral Commissioner of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) with immediate effect.

A statement issued on Thursday by Mouzalas explained that due to certain developments within the rank and file of SWAG, he would not want to be seen as supervising an election that would be anything but credible.

He said this is in view of the threats of boycotts, rancor and seeming division among the members.

"After what I saw and heard at Tuesday's emergency meeting of the Association, followed by discussions and consultations I had with some members as well as a number of stakeholders, including some patrons of SWAG, I have come to a firm decision to step aside as the Electoral Commissioner."

Mr. Mouzalas thanked the SWAG for the confidence reposed in him adding that he hope that the Association will find a credible and competent Electoral Commissioner when it sorts itself out and come to a consensus.
