Rugby president unhappy

Accra, May 9, GNA - Mrs Gifty E. Annan-Myers, the President of the Ghana Rugby Association (GRA) has expressed her dissatisfaction on the slow pace of development on the so called lesser known sports. According to the Rugby President, some of this so called lesser known sports when taken serious will not only bring laurels to the nation, but can contribute massively to the nations investments drive. Mrs Annan Myers made these remarks when the association presented rugby equipments to the University of Ghana rugby club.

She said, Ghana as a purely talented sports nation should not focus all attention football though it is the regarded as the passion of the nation but pay some amount of attention to the so called lesser known sports.

Mrs Annan-Myers said what is described as lesser known sports in Ghana are highly regarded in some countries, citing Rugby, Baseball, Handball, Cricket, Martial Arts in countries like South Africa, New Zealand, China, Singapore, among others.

She said the association plans to develop rugby at the grassroots, hence the decision to support the university with equipment that aid them promote the game by unearthing more talents. The president however, noted that similar donation would be made to other educational institutions, especially second cycle and tertiary institutions.

She however, expressed disappointment at the low level of co-operation and support for the association in their efforts to reach their targets.
