RtD U-18’s to participate in Gothia Cup

Right to Dream (RtD) will for the first time take part in the prestigious Gothia Cup from 15th July to 21st July, 2013.

The Gothia Cup is the largest International Youth tournament in the world, which brings together about 1600 teams from 70 nations in the Swedish city of Gothenburg.

The RtD U-18’s have been drawn in Group 4 of the Special B17 class, alongside Swedish Giants Hacken, HJK Helsinkiand Landskrona BoIS .

Also participating in the other five Groups among others are Mexican Club America, River Plate of Argentina and Swedish club Helsingborg.

RtD have been preparing for the competition, in the last few weeks, by undertaking rigorous training regime at the school campus at Old Akrade in the Eastern Region.

The team have played both local and international friendly matches to sharpen up their rough edges ahead of the tournament.

Meanwhile, RtD has released a strong squad for the Gothia Cup which includes some international players. The team includes Ghana’s top scorer at the 2013 African Under 17 Championship Yaw Yeboah and Burkina Faso U-17 striker Illiase Sawadogo.

The captain of the national Under 17 team, Thomas Agyepong and stalwart defender Kingsley Fobi are also part of the team.

The two players were recently nominated for the Most Valuable Player Award at the recent National Player Awards in Accra.

RtD has produced some of the best footballers in Ghana since 1999 and currently have 15 graduates playing professional football in Europe, America and Ghana.

The list includes Ghana Black Stars striker Abdul Majeed Waris, David Accam, Mohammed Abu and King Osei Gyan to name a few.
