Former IBF world boxing champion Joseph ‘King Kong’ Agbeko has picked Cuban boxer Guillermo Rigondeaux as the craftiest boxer he has ever fought.

Disclosing his toughest opponent ever on Entertainment Capital on Accra100.5FM on Saturday 24 June, he said: “I would say Guillermo Rigondeaux.

He is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and one-time amateur world championship gold medallist. He is the most skilful and smartest fighter I have ever fought.”

Rigondeaux defeated Agbeko on December 7, 2013 at the Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA. He won every round on all three judges’ scorecards and retained the Lineal, WBO, and Ring Magazine world junior featherweight titles and the WBA Super World super bantamweight title.

Rigondeaux has held multiple world championships at super bantamweight, including the WBA (Super) and Lineal titles since 2013, and previously the WBO and Ring Magazine titles between 2013 and 2016.

He has also held the IBO super bantamweight title since June 2017. As of May 2017, Rigondeaux is ranked as the world's best super bantamweight by The Ring, the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board, and BoxRec.

The Ring also ranks him as the seventh-best boxer, pound for pound.
