Revealed: Osei Kofi is Ghana’s all time AFCON top scorer with 7 goals

Footy-ghana.com can confirm that Ghana legend, Osei Kofi is Ghana’s all-time leading scorer in African Nations Cup history with seven goals.

Osei Kofi, a member of Ghana’s 1963 African Nations Cup winning squad, scored three times as Ghana successfully defended the title in 1965 and also scored four times as Ghana reached the 1968 African Nations Cup final.

Currently four players are tied on six goals each; Wilberforce Mfum, who scored once during the 1963 AFCON and five times in 1968; George Alhassan, who scored twice in 1978 and four times in 1982; Abedi Ayew Pele, who scored three times in 1992 and repeated the feat four years later in South Africa and current captain Asamoah Gyan, who scored once in 2008, three times in 2010 and one each during the 2012 and 2013 AFCON tournaments.

It means that should Asamoah Gyan score at least twice in Equatorial Guinea, he would break Osei Kofi’s record In all Ghana has so far scored 111 goals in African Nations Cup history.
