Resident launch fund raising to support local team

Manso, (B/A) July 11, GNA - Residents of Bono Manso in the Nkoranza District of the Brong Ahafo Region at the week-end organised a fund raising rally that fetched about five million cedis to support their local football club, Amoateng Stars.

Mr. Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South Constituency and the Deputy Minister of Education and Sports commended the youth for coming together to form the Club.

He therefore urged them to continue maintain their cooperative spirit and forge together by training hard to win laurels for themselves and the area.

Mr Ampofo-Twumasi advised the players to shun social vices including alcoholism, 'wee' smoking and illicit sexual practices, which he said would have an adverse effect on their health and sporting prowess. The Deputy Minister donated one million cedis to the team and gave the assurance of seeking further assistance from other sources to promote the club's activities.

Mr. Kwaku Agyemang Manu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Dormaa West who accompanied the Deputy Sports Minister expressed appreciation for the efforts of the youth of the area.

He also donated a set of jerseys to the Club.

Mr. Seth Asah, the Assembly Member expressed gratitude to the MP's for their kind gesture.

He said the club was named after the MP for the area, Mr. Eric Amoateng who is currently facing a charge of alleged importation of cocaine to the United States of America.

Mr Asah commended the Chief, Nana Menka Ameyaw and his elders for providing support and for encouraging the youth to carry out their activities to enhance the development of the community.

Mr. Oduro Asiamah, Techiman Municipal Sports Chairman, who was a special guest, urged members of the team to be disciplined and to guard against bad conduct on the field of play.
