Prof. Peter Twumasi Prof. Peter Twumasi

Professor Peter Twumasi, Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) has said, research is an essential tool for the development and promotion of sports in the country.

Professor Twumasi, in an interview with the GNA Sports said, there was a huge reward for any modern organization that relies upon true, scientific and unbiased assessment of situations and conditions through research to elicit relevant polices to steer the affairs of the organization.

He said plans were far advanced for the NSA to make sports research, a major point of focus in their quest to supervise and maintain sporting infrastructure, as well as develop athletes to perform at the highest level.

”The outcome of research activities in diverse sectors of our society and economy, which sports is part, would provide solutions and measures in the form of recommendations to policy makers, Government and stakeholders,” Prof. Twumasi added.

“Ever since I took up the appointment as the Director General of the NSA, my administration has been involved in critical assessment of sports in Ghana and we have been well informed some findings, which would be used extensively to improve sports in the country.

“The focus now is on developing neglected sporting disciplines to ensure greater participation of the citizenry in sports, with consequent impact on job creation, health improvement to reduce cost of healthcare,” he added.
