The chairman of Ghana FA Cup Committee JY Appiah has indicated that the referees who will officiate the semi-final games this weekend will live up to expectation.

Appiah explained that the FA Cup is a great platform for referees to excel in their work and is confident they will do the right thing for the betterment of Ghana’s football.

Defending champions Kumasi Asante Kotoko will lock horns with Dormaa-based Aduana Stars at the Sunyani Coronation Park on Friday in the first semi-final game while Accra Hearts of Oak will face Medeama Sporting Club at the Capecoast Stadium in the second semi-final fixture on Sunday.

“This is a great opportunity for referees to hit the limelight as the games will be telecast live for the whole world to see their prerformace,” Appiah told Goal.

“The ball is now in their court because what they will exhibit will either enhance or bring them down in their career as everyone will see their output.

“We have talked to them and we hope they will do their work fairly for us to see true winners,” he said.

Appiah further dispelled the notion that the committee wants Kotoko and Hearts of Oak to play in the grand final.

“I have heard people talking about it that we are bent on doing everything possible to see Hearts and Kotoko play in the final but I can wholeheartedly say that those stories are all lies. We cannot do that. The deserving teams will go to the final.”

Kotoko won the last edition by defeating Inter Allies 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
