Rapheal Mensah set to give Ghana another world title

Ghana’s Rafael Mensah (31-0, 23 KOs) has vowed to give Ghana another world title, as he steps into the ring on July 21, in the United States America (USA) to face Alberto Machado of Puerto Rico in the World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Featherweight champion.

The boxer, who is the mandatory opponent for the Pueto Rican, has called for a massive support from Ghanaians, as the clash which has suffered many postponements would be held at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, USA.

It would Machado’s first defence of his belt.

“This fight has taken too long to happen, it’s frustrating but I remained strong and ready. All I ask my fans back home in Ghana and around the world is to support me with their prayers. I am bringing the title home,” Mensah said ahead of the fight.

“Ghana stand up, Africa stand up. We thank everyone for their support and words of encouragement. Raphael is fighting with a heavy heart and would win this title,” he added.

The fight would be on the undercard of Jaime Munguia (29-0, 25 KOs), 21, of Mexico, making his first defense against mandatory challenger and former titlist Liam Smith (26-1-1, 14 KOs), 29, of England.
