Ranieri gives Schlupp, Amartey update

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has given the latest update on Ghana duo Jeffrey Schlupp and Daniel Amartey as the Foxes prepare to face Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.

While Schlupp is yet to feature for the team since their 3-0 win over Swansea last December due to a hamstring injury, Amartey’s only outing for the outfit since transferring from Danish side Copenhagen last month was an appearance in an under-21 game against Reading on Monday.

“Matty [James] is working inside with the physio, and Jeff [Schlupp] has started to work outside,” Ranieri said.

“He will make a warm up with us and continue his improvement. I think after Norwich [Leicester’s next game after playing Arsenal], he will come with me and start working with the first team.”

Having earlier hinted Amartey’s possible involvement ahead of the Foxes clash with Manchester City last weekend, Ranieri was forced into reconsidering his decision due to lack of match fitness on the part of the player.

And the versatile defender looks set to continue his wait for a first team bow.

“Not now,” Ranieri curtly replied when queried on Amartey’s involvement against Arsenal.

“I think in the next match against Norwich, he [will] be ready.”

Leicester currently sit five points clear at the top of the league table after 25 round of matches.
