Ghana Serbian coach, Milovan Rajevac, has expressed confidence his team will make history by becoming the first African team to reach the last four of the World Cup with victory over Uruguay on Friday.
“I believe we will beat Uruguay,” said a confident Rajevac.
"My team have the ability to reinvent themselves every day and to overcome all the adversities that have come their way since January, when we featured in the Nations Cup without Michael Essien, John Mensah, John Pantsil and Laryea Kingston. In Angola, we grew game after game to reach the final.
“Here in South Africa, we have again lost Michael (Essien), who is our leader. But again the boys have not disappointed, giving everything to make everyone happy. We will continue to fight for the victory at this World Cup.
“It also means a lot that the whole continent is behind us.”
Ghana equalled the African record of a World Cup quarter-final spot achieved by Cameroon in 1990 and Senegal in 2002 when they defeated the US 2-1 in a Round of 16 match-up in Rustenburg.
Rajevac described the win over the US as a great professional success but has insisted that the target now is to go further at South Africa 2010.
"It's clear from the professional point of view that beating US was a very important success for what it represents, not only for Ghana, but also for the whole African continent at this World Cup,” said the Serbian coach.
“Certainly, this is the biggest thing that has happened to me as coach, but our run has still not ended. We have ahead the possibility of getting into semi-finals and we’re going to fight to the maximum to achieve this.”
