RICS Charities sponsors Northern Region Inter-District games

Tamale, Aug. 5, GNA - RICS Charity, a subsidiary of RICS Consult on Monday presented a sponsorship package to the Ghana Education Service in the Northern Region as its contribution towards developing sports at the basic levels of education in the country. RICS Charity as part of the package would give a bursary of GH¢ 50 to the best performer in all the 13 disciplines of the ongoing Northern Region Inter-Districts Basic Schools Athletics competition at Damongo in the West Gonja District.

Mr. Magnus Rex Danquah, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of RICS Consult announced this on Monday when he presented some medals and trophies for all the disciplines at the ongoing Festival on behalf of RICS. He said RICS has formed a partnership with the Northern Region office of the Ghana Education Service to organize this year's Inter-District Basic Schools Sports Festival to ensure that sports was developed at the grassroots.

Mr Rex Danquah said the partnership which, spans five years was aimed at nurturing sports talents from the basic level towards attaining national excellence and appealed to the GES to monitor the progress of sports men and women saying, "RICS would sponsor the best ones up to the tertiary level." "We would also give GH¢ 20 award to those who would break a 20 year record and GH¢ 10 to those who would break a ten-year record and above in addition to the bursary. We are also interested in identifying the best sports dropouts to re-enroll them in formal schools with full sponsorship packages to complete their education." Rex Danquah said over the years RICS had rendered material support to orphanages and physically challenged institutions in the country and has also supported the Inter-Houses Sports competitions of Mfantsipim and Wesley Girls High Schools in the Central Region.

Mr. Kwesi John Horbenu, Northern Regional Director of Education said the GES would continue to provide the necessary infrastructure for sports development in the country. He said education was oriented towards cultural upbringing of society and that since sports was a passion of the nation, everything possible would be done to ensure sports was enhanced at the basic level. Mr. Horbenu commended RICS consult for the honour done the Region and appealed to other corporate bodies to step in to support sports to unearth many talents. Participants at the Inter-District Basic Schools Sports Festival are competing in Athletics, Soccer, Volleyball, Handball, Table Tennis and Cross-country.
