Queens to tour Germany for SA challenge

Accra, Oct. 18, GNA - Ghana's female football team, the Black Queens would begin an 11-day training tour to Germany on Wednesday as the team fine tunes its preparations towards the 7th African Women Championship slated for South Africa later in the month. Ghana who are pitted in Group B alongside defending champions Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon and Algeria are slated to depart Ghana to Germany on Tuesday for the tour that will have Coach E.K Edusie eventually trimming down the team to 21.

The team which will be joined by former captain, Ajoa Bayor and United States-based defender; Oliver Amoako for the final preparations will travel straight to South Africa after the 11-day tour. The 25-member team set for the Germany tour includes four goalkeepers to be trimmed to three and 21 outfield players to battle for positions.

The Queens failed to progress past the Group stage at the last championship in Equatorial Guinea and must come good in this competition which automatically qualifies the two finalists to the FIFA Women's World Cup billed for Germany next year.

The tourney billed for 31 October-14 November will pit the Ghanaians against Algeria in the group opener on November 2 before playing Cameroon three days later and wrapping up against the defending champions Equatorial Guinea on November 8.

The Sinaba Stadium in Daveyton and Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa are the two venues for the eight-team biannual tourney.
