Preview: Amidaus – Kotoko

The Ghana Premier League makes a return after the two-week break that paved way for the 2013 Gotv Wafu Cup.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko could boast of the largest contingent in the Ghana team that went all the way to the finals and lifted the trophy. The Reds have now shifted their attention to domestic duties as they make a trip to Tema to face Amidaus Professionals.

Amidaus got all the attention before qualifying to the elite division last year by beating Kotoko 2-0 at the quarter final stage of the 2011/2012 Ghana FA Cup at the same venue.

Since then, the two teams have met twice in the league last season with Kotoko picking four out of a possible six points.

Amidaus tinkered with their technical bench during the break after appointing Shaibu Tanko Ibrahim to replace the sacked Baba Ali.

With previous stints at Hearts of Oak and Medema Sc, coach Tanko will be hoping to start his campaign on a good note, starting with Sunday’s “showdown” with the reigning champions.

Midfielder,Yahaya Mohammed gives Kotoko a massive advantage since he knows the Amidaus team very well and also feels comfortable playing in Tema.

Mohammed served a one-year loan term at Amidaus last season and scored over ten goals.

He recently scored the only goal when Kotoko played against new boys, Inter Allies at the same Tema Park.

Coach Mas-Ud Dramani and his boys know anything other than a win will attract more pressure on them as Hearts of Oak, Ashgold, and Medema Sc continue to mount a hot chase.
