The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) realised over GHc120,000 from this year’s President’s Cup match between Accra Hearts of Oak and their arch rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium on July 1.
In a game that much was expected from the gates, particularly coming on the heels of the league game between the two sides which yielded over GHc500,000 gross, the yield from the President’s Cup appeared woefully inadequate.
But Kudjoe Fianoo, chairman of GHALCA, insists the association is satisfied with the amount, considering the low publicity that went into the match.
According to him, the introduction of electronic ticketing helped to reduce fraud at the gates.
“For the first time, I will say we are happy with the amount we received from the President’s Cup because of the measures we put in place to derive the maximum from the gates.
“What we got from the gates was a true reflection of the attendance,” he stated.
He disclosed that 10,000 spectators paid to watch that game which saw the Porcupine Warriors beat the Phobians 3-1 on penalties to lift the trophy at stake.
