Kumasi, Feb. 13, GNA - Prempeh College on Friday won the Northern Sector inter-schools debate, with 62.7 points, which qualifies the school to meet the champion of the Southern sector in the grand finale in March. The contest was organised by the Ghana Education Service (GES) in Kumasi,
For its prize the college received a trophy and certificates. Tamale Senior High School (SHS) placed second with 62 points with Sunyani SHS, third with 61 points and Bolgatanga Girls' SHS, fourth with 58.3 points.
"The resources Dr Kwame Nkrumah used in the liberation and unification of Africa was to the detriment of Ghana's development," was the topic and Prempeh was for the motion.
The contest saw over 50 schools participating and formed part of activities to mark the nation's 53rd Independence Day Celebration. Mr Joseph Onyinah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, in a speech read on his behalf, commended the winners for the hard work and urged them to be studious to win the grand finale.
He spoke of the need for regular school debates to improve the creativity and thinking ability of students. 13 Feb. 10
