Ghana FA top executives George Afriyie and Kofi Manu have been arrested and bailed over bizarre claims that they were plotting to assassinate sports presenter Patrick Osei ‘Countryman Songo’ Agyemang but the duo has rubbished the allegation as ‘false and a complete waste of time’.
A taxi driver is reported to have told the Nima police that he overheard two guys saying in a taxi conversation that Afriyie and Kofi Manu, popularly called ‘Blue Blue’ have contracted them to kill the controversial radio presenter who is an arch critic of the GFA.
Instead of reporting the two guys, who he claims have been hired to carry out the killing, to the police station, the taxi driver strangely said he dropped them off in Abeka before leaving all the police stations in Abeka, Tesano and Alajo and travelled all the way to the Nima police station to report the matter.
This is what led to the Nima police to strangely invite the duo to the police station.
The duo were invited to the police station on Thursday following the report by the taxi driver before they were bailed and asked to re-appear on Tuesday.
The two administrators were invited even though they were not confronted with any evidence of the supposed assassination plot.
Yes, the incident is true, I have written a statement and have been bailed. I will re-appear at the station on Tuesday,” George Afriyie said.
“How can I do this? How can somebody even come to think of something like this? Anyway I call it a job hazard,” he added.
The report comes as a surprise to many who have wondered why Afriyie and Manu have been linked to the alleged assassination plot on Songo when his main line of attack is Kwesi Nyantakyi, the federation boss.
Others have also noted the report to the police as a diversionary tactic deployed by the Songo camp with the defamation lawsuit brought against him by Nyantakyi looming.
