Police Capo visits Sekondi Sports Complex

Essipong (W/R) October 9, GNA - An elaborate security management plan has been drawn up for all the four venues of Accra, Kumasi, Tamale and Sekondi towards the hosting of the Ghana Can 2008 tournament. Mr Patrick Timbillah, Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of Operations said this on Tuesday after he visited the Sekondi Sports Stadium Complex at Essipong to evaluate security situation and enforcement during the Ghana CAN 2008.

Speaking to the press, Mr Timbillah said Regional Police Commanders in the venue cities are expected to also come up with additional security plans to ensure an incident free event.

The Deputy Commissioner observed that it is gratifying that the stadium has sufficient physical facilities for management of security. Mr Timbillah however noted that there is only one main road leading to the stadium and suggested the construction of another road to the area for emergency purposes.

He also suggested the construction of a Police station near the stadium to enable the Police and other security services handle any form of indiscipline, crowd violence or mob actions. Mr Timbillah said the Police administration intends to educate the public on security precautions to protect life and property.
