Plot twists in Group D

A World Cup that had seemed so by-the-book, lacking in surprise, is suddenly offering more plot twists and turns than an Agatha Christie mystery.

Group D is wide open now, after the Serbian upset of the Germans and Australia held Ghana to a draw

The Ghana-Germany clash, always a mouth-watering proposition, is now decisive, Serbia level with the two times world champions, a point behind Ghana. As ridiculous as it seemed after the Germans destroyed Australia 4-0, they could actually miss out by losing to the Black Stars and Serbia getting the better of the Aussies.

Not that the Germans sound particularly worried.

Believe it or not, but Australia also has a chance. However, the Socceroos now need goals for their World Cup adventure to continue beyond the middle of this week. Goals from themselves against Serbia and plenty of goals from Germany, should they beat Ghana, will be enough

Serbia on the other hand just needs to win and they are through

Ghana can make the last 16 with a win or a draw. A loss can still see them through if the other game is a draw.

Not that much has changed for Ghana, if they had won today.
