Players of Airtel Rising Stars prepare for U17 Camping

Some selected players from the last edition of the nation’s most credible grassroots football competition, Airtel Rising Stars are gearing up to be joined by colleagues who will be selected by the technical team of Black Starlets on a nationwide tour currently underway.

The talented players, discovered during the 2015 edition of Airtel Rising Stars impressed Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association, Samuel Francis Oti Akenten with great football skills as potential national team players.

In a release issued recently, the Technical Team of the National Under 17, Black Starlets will tour the ten (10) regional capitals in Ghana from 14th – 31st January, 2016 to scout for players born on or after 1st January 2000 with the requisite physique, technique, skill, talent and groom them for selection into the national under 17 team with the assistance of the Regional Sports Development Officers (R.S.D.O) and Regional Coaches.

Richard Ahiagble, Airtel Ghana’s Head of Corporate Communications welcomed the news saying “We are excited to hear that some of the talented young footballers discovered through the Airtel Rising Stars platform are being considered for inclusion for the National under 17 team. Our commitment as a business to empower people to realise their full potential is unwavering.

This is indeed a testament to the impact we continue to make in sports development in this country. We wish the selected Rising Stars, the very best in the process”.

Airtel Rising Stars is a grassroots sports talent initiative introduced by Airtel that seeks to discover and nurture talented under 17 years male and female footballers who otherwise would have gone unnoticed. The initiative runs in all 17 Airtel operations across Africa and seeks to bring to light the skills of these young and talented individuals by giving them the platform to become world class football stars.

The competition will continue later this year to unearth talents to feed the male and female junior national teams.
