The President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Kwabena Yeboah, has attributed poor attendance by fans to various matches to player exodus that has led to the unavailability of stars in the league.

One major problem that the Ghana Premier League has been facing in recent years has been the issue concerning low attendance at games.

In an interview with Accra-based Asempa FM, Mr Yeboah said the situation is so because fans have not reason to go.

He explained that in those years that people trooped to match centres, they were motivated by the desire to go watch their favourite players play.

“Football all over the world is about stars. You must have a reason for watching a match and in the past, why the stands were always filled was because you had players you had to go and watch”.

“Because those days, the early 70s, Robert Mensah, alone, would bring everybody to the stadium”, he said.
