Pepsi Hockey League: Multi Beat Veterans

Multistix avenged their 0-1 first round loss to rivals Veterans with an emphatic 4-1 victory in one of the two league matches played this weekend.

Multistix pushed-off aggressively with the painful defeat to the Veterans very much on their mind. The front line and midfield of Multi took control of the game right from the start, making incursions into the Veterans goal area.

A frisky move from midfield ended in a penalty award to Multi in the 7th minute, which was converted by Richard Akpokavie for a 1-0 lead. Veterans took the game to their opponents reducing the game to a midfield contest. In the latter part of the half, Vets dominated proceedings and in the process equalized in the 42nd minute through Mante Akrofi to end the first half 1-1.

The second half was again contested in midfield until the last 10 minutes when Multi turned the heat on Vets. In the 61st minute substitute Winfred Sackey, expertly converted a penalty corner to give Multi the lead. Edmund Aryertey doubled the lead in the 63rd minute and Ato Hagan completed the Multi victory in the 65th minute.

In the other match of the day, NDK Financiers were held to a 1-1 draw by Citizens. Robert Quaye put Citizens ahead in the 8th minute and Gamali Nyame pulled level during the 26th minute.

The league is on recess to allow the National Men and Women’s Teams finalize their preparations for the 8th All African Games scheduled for Abuja in October.
