Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports to grace 38th SWAG Awards

The 38th SWAG Awards comes off on Saturday June 29 at the Banquet Hall of the State House and patrons of the event are leaving no stone unturned to make the occasion grand.

Among the distinguished guests invited for the event are Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and Dr. Toni Aubynn, CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Mines. The Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports have also been invited and the chairman, Hon. Stephen Ackah, Hon. Isaac Asiamah, Hon. Mensah Woyome, Hon. Sena Okiti Duah and others are expected to grace the night.

The 38th SWAG Awards will see the honouring of over 25 sports personalities who have distinguished themselves in the year 2012. They include Kwadwo Asamoah (Sports Personality of the Year), Mahatma Otoo (Premiership Player of the Year), Emmanuel Clottey (Footballer of the Year), Michael Akuffo (Premiership Player of The Year), Derek Abrefa (Table Tennis Player of the Year), Elikem Akaba (Hockey Player of The Year), Alberta Ampomah (Weight Lifter of The Year), Janet Amponsah (Female Athlete of the Year), Emos Korblah (Best Golfer –Male), Beatrice Vetsch- Bempong ( Best Golfer – Female), Swimmer Abeiku Jackson (Discovery of the Year) and Priscilla Okyere (Female Footballer of the Year).

Others are Prince Kofi Amoabeng (Special Award for promoting golf), Promasidor Ghana Ltd (Special Award for Promoting Cycling), John Ampomah (Male Athlete of the Year), Cynthia Kwabi (Best female Table Tennis Player), Duke Micah (Best Amateur Boxer), Mas-Ud Didi Dramani (Coach of the Year), Berekum Chelsea (Club of the Year), Adjoa Bayor ( Dedication & Valour), Juanita Korwu ( Best FemaleHockey Player), Moses Odjer (Promising Star) and The Black Maidens (National Team of the Year).

The rest of the award winner are Emmanuel Kyeremah ( Best Club Chairman), Tesano Dolphins (Special Award for Swimming), MTN CEO Michael Ikpki (Special Award), Anita Foudjour (Special Award), Die Hard Supporters (Special Award) and S.B. Donkor (Special Award).

The SWAG will confer Very Special Posthumous Awards to the late Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama and President J.E.A Mills for their dedication to sports development and promotion with regards to football and hockey.

The Pace Setters Band of the GBC will thrill guests, patrons and SWAG members to great tunes that would make the night a memorable one.
