Paralympic Committee optimistic ahead of 2012 Games

The Ministry of Youth and Sports in conjunction with the National Sports Authority has pledged its readiness to offer the necessary assistance of supply of equipment and kit to enable the country's paralympic team prepare adequately towards the upcoming 2012 London Paralympic Games later in the month.

To this end, plans are far advanced with the preparations of the National Paralympics body to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted programme line-up ahead of the London Paralympics.

Dennis Moore, Media Coordinator of the National Paralympics Committees in a release copied to GNA Sports said members and other stakeholders of the National Paralympics Committee made up of representatives from the Ghana Cycling Federation, National Sports Authority and the Ministry of Youth and Sports had a fruitful deliberation regarding kits and equipments to be used by the Para-athletes.

The National Paralympic Team comprises Alem Mumuni- paracycling, Charles Narh - Power-lifting, Botsio Nkegbe and Anita Fordjour, both for Wheel chair athletics. Meanwhile 'Team Ghana' will end their camping with Right to Dream on the 10th of August. National camping resumes immediately from there. Two national coaches will be joining the team by next week. The rest of the delegation will follow suit at later date.

The President of the National Paralympic Committee who also doubles as the Chef du Mission for the Paralympics Games –Bishop Adja Cofie has meanwhile extend their good wishes to the Ghana Olympic Team as theyare currently engaged in the London Olympics Games.

Bishop Cofie said he is optimistic in the Para contest adding that it should be the responsibility of all to ensure that preparations are not interrupted so as to foster a wonderful performance from the Para team.

The Paralympics will commence on the 29th of August and will end on the 1st of September 2012.

Ghana’s participation was for the first time secured through tough trial qualifications and not on any wild card.

Meanwhile the Committee said it shares in the grief of the demise of the late President Professor John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills.

"Our unmeasured condolence goes to the wife and the family of the late President. May his soul rest in perfect peace".
