The national PARA cycling team departed to the united kingdom yesterday to participate in the 3 day international PARA cycling track championship.

The team comprised of Frederick Assor – Blind cyclist, Abdul Quaadir Sulaiman – Pilot, and Rudolf Mensah – team mechanic/Coach

The event forms part of the national PARA cycling team’s preparation towards the upcoming Commonwealth Games in the Gold coast.

Through the instrumentality of the federation, the final qualification process of Tandem cycling was extended to March next year paving way for Ghana to represent in the Gold coast. Ghana has however been given a last straw to bite to enable her qualify totally by attending the last classification event in Brazil next year March.

The Brazil event is to qualify only two PARA tandem cyclists and the federation has opted to the world body to mandate a classification event in Ghana.

The request for that classification event in the country is imminent and would save the country a lot of money – and again see Ghana at the Games.

The federation coughed up over 30,000 GH to see the athletes through to the UK.

By mere presence in the Manchester event , Ghana is just a stones throw away from qualifying to the Gold Coast next year.

Ghana stands a greater chance of winning a medal at the Games in para- tandem cycling.

Out of the 34 countries expected to compete in the tandem cycling next year, only 5 will be representing.

South Africa, Kenya and Ghana are the surviving African countries who are set to storm the Gold Coast.

The continental para- cycling African championships classification event is thus set for next year January in Accra.
