Mr Ben Nunoo Mensah, the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has said they have reached an advanced stage of negotiations with Papaye Food Service to become the official food sponsors of the GOC.

He said the deal if finalized, would see the fast food company providing food for athletes during camping ahead of major competitions.

According to Mr. Nunoo Mensah, the new deal would reduce the cost of feeding for athletes for federations and the GOC, adding that, athletes would now be more focused and prepare well for events.

Speaking with the GNA Sports at the Papaye Media Fun Fair last Saturday, the President said the GOC was planning a lot of activities with the food company including an annual marathon at the Papaye Recreational Village in the Eastern region.

“There are other events that Papaye wants to partner the GOC to do and I’m also very happy that our informal discussion is producing results. When our athletes are preparing for tournaments, they may not have to worry about food to eat, so that’s a good news for GOC and we are looking forward to signing a formal agreement,” Mr. Nunoo Mensah said.

“We are looking at having an annual Papaye GOC Games and the key point of that game would be a marathon, which would owned by the town. We may not necessary start the race from here (Papaye Village) but we will start from somewhere Peduase and this is where it’s going to end”, he added.

Mr Nunoo Mensah also disclosed the plans to make the Papaye Recreational Village in Konkonuru the official camping base for the GOC.

“It’s a private property and we need to have discussion and negotiate with them. Mr. Kalmoni (owner of Papaye) loves Ghana so he would stop at nothing to make team Ghana to use this place as camping base.”

He commended the company for putting up a such a facility which can be a center for all sporting activities as well as recreational activities.
