Nuru Paadi took 3 hours 6 minutes and 22 seconds to win the first stage of the three-day Cowbell Cycling Festival today.

The tour aimed at honouring departed national cyclist Samuel Anim began from the Accra Sports Stadium to Winneba and back to the starting point brought together 14 cracked cycling team dotted across the country.

Eventual winner Paadi broke away from the rest of the pack mid-way through the race and never looked back leaving behind Isaac Sackey in second place and Kofi Newton in third place while Moro Egaia Yakubu and Ali Stephen Kwesi followed in that order.

For their effort the first five cyclists went home with a medal and sports bag as well as souvenirs from Cowbell.

Also Frank A. Akuffo won the best fighter award on the day while the best by point’s award and youngest cyclist award went to Nuru Paadi and Frank Akuffo with the best team Velo Stars Cycling Club.

With the first leg of the three-day tour cleared, attention will be shifted to the second stage come tomorrow as the cyclist move from Accra to Mamfe and back to Accra with the grand finale slated for Saturday at Mantse Agbona, James Town in Accra where there would be a criterium to crown the festival.

The ultimate winners would be presented with prizes including medals, trophies, cash and souvenirs from the sponsors Cowbell.

Teams taking part in the festival includes Volta Stars, Pacesetters, Victory cycling club, River Park, City Migro, Gutten Cycling club, Quick Steps, Young Stars, Velo and His Majesty from Prampram.
