PMSPORTS takes Tennis-In-Schools-Programme to Koforidua

PM sports, a non-governmental organization in Collaboration with Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) and Ghana Education Service, introduced the game of Tennis to students in 7 separate schools including Nana Kwaku Boating A to D and RIIS Presbyterian Model Schools in the Eastern Region.

The 10 weeks Tennis-In-Schools-Programme is aimed at promoting opportunities through sports. PMSPORTS aims to encourage active participation from the grass roots and plans to introduce 5000 children to tennis every year.

Over 500 aspiring tennis stars between the ages of 7 and 10 in classes 3 and 4 were introduced to mini tennis and the participants were taken through the basics of the game. Children used mini version equipments such as the softer balls, smaller racquets and mini nets.

In an interview with ghanatennis.org, Mr Peter Mensah, founder of PM Sports Foundation said ‘I am very happy PM Sports Foundation is now in Koforidua and we will be having 10 weeks training sessions in these schools.

Schools in Accra and parts of the Central region completed their first 7 weeks sessions last term. Some of the children From all the participating schools were selected for our Talent Identification day at the Accra Sports Stadium on the 22nd of December 2018 and received more specialised training tips from the national coaches.

More schools are planned to join the programme for the 10 weeks sessions starting from the 28th of January 2019.

PM Sports Administrative Manager Isaac Kofi Kwarteng said within the 10 weeks programme, the children will be thought the latest techniques in the sport with more attention on developing their motor skills and attracting long-term participation.

Mr. Kwame Gjangba, Vice Chairman of Koforidua Sports Club and a GTF executive member, also said,"I am very happy PMSPORTS brought it's Tennis-In-Schools-Programme to Koforidua. Koforidua Sports Club will help make this initiative a success.
