Otto Addo deserves respect for qualifying for two World Cups - Kurt Okraku

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has called on Ghanaians to show dignity to Black Stars head coach Otto Addo following his historic achievement in World Cup qualification.

Otto Addo in October 2025 made history as the only Ghanaian coach to qualify the nation for two consecutive FIFA World Cup tournaments, (2022 and 2026).

Despite this feat, some football fans have called for his dismissal, claiming he isn’t competent enough to lead Ghana to the World Cup.

Addressing the critics in an interview with Asaase Radio on February 17, 2026, the GFA boss urged the public to rally behind the coach and appreciate the achievement instead of undermining his potential.

“Otto Addo is the only Ghanaian to have qualified Ghana for two World Cups. He deserves our respect and support. The Black Stars remain a work in progress under Otto Addo. The World Cup qualification was a statement of unity for us,” Okraku said.

The second CAF vice president also revealed that the budget for the Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup campaign is still being finalised with relevant stakeholders as the tournament approaches.

“The budget for World Cup preparations is still in progress,” he added.

The Black Stars have been drawn into Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.
